When do fireworks go on sale?
Last reviewed 2026-10-15.
There is no single sale date. Stores run deals at a handful of predictable points in the year, and the best deals tend to be right after a holiday rather than right before one. Retailer advice gives no discount percentages or exact dates, so treat each window below as a good time to look, not a promise.
| When | What happens | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| January (first days) | New Year clearance. Also a good time for a wholesale order, ahead of the summer rush. | Stocking up for July |
| June | Early-bird specials before July 4. Selection is at its widest. | Your main buy if you did not buy earlier |
| July 5 onward | Post-holiday clearance. Stores want leftover stock gone. | Next year's show, if you can store it legally and safely |
| August to October | Off season. Some stores discount to clear space. | Cakes and novelties |
| December | Early specials before New Year's Eve. | New Year's shows |
Read the deal before you chase it
- Buy one, get one free is a price, not a gift. Many stores that run it list items at about double. Divide by two before you compare with a store that has no offer.
- Compare price per item, then price per show. A cheaper cake that empties in 10 seconds can cost more per second of show than a dearer one that runs 45.
- Case prices usually beat single prices. In our catalog export of 12 October 2026, the lowest wholesale case price worked out to a median 52 percent less per item than the typical retail single price, across 3,155 products that have both.
- Stores differ a lot. For the 3,408 products with retail single prices from at least five stores, the highest store price was a median 3.3 times the lowest.
- Count the whole trip. Gas, time and shipping can erase a better shelf price.
